Information and Announcements About The Diocese

Protecting life is a central teaching of the Catholic faith. The Louisiana Conference of Catholic Bishops urges Congress to take action in response to the tragic murders of 19 innocent children and their teachers in Uvalde, Texas. There must be dialogue and concrete action to bring about a social renewal that addresses all aspects of the crisis, including mental health, the state of families, the valuation of life, the influence of entertainment and gaming industries, bullying, and the availability of firearms.  Among the many steps toward addressing this endemic of violence is the passage of reasonable gun control measures.

Please vote in support of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act (H.R. 8), the Enhanced Background Checks Act (H.R. 1446), and Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act (H.R. 2377). The LCCB also urges Congress to support a total ban on assault weapons, limitations on civilian access to high-capacity weapons and ammunition magazines, measures that control the sale and use of firearms, such as universal background checks for all gun purchases, laws to criminalize gun trafficking, proposals to set a more appropriate minimum age for gun ownership, and a 'bump stocks' ban.

LAKE CHARLES — Soon after Joshua Page received the Sacrament of Confirmation, he said that he committed to being “all in” as a Catholic. That commitment eventually led him to enter the seminary.

Page will advance one step closer to the priesthood on Saturday, June 4, when he is ordained a transitional deacon by Bishop Glen John Provost. The Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
