Pope Francis delivered an extraordinary Urbi et Orbi (To the City [Rome] and the World) Blessing to an empty St. Peter's Square on Friday, March 27, from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica. The Holy Father granted a special indulgence under the normal conditions for those watching the blessing via social media.
The ceremony consisted of readings from the Scriptures, prayers of supplication, and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and concluded with Pope Francis giving the Urbi et Orbi Blessing, with the possibility of gaining a plenary indulgence for all those who listened to it LIVE through the various forms of communication. The blessing is normally only given on Christmas and Easter.
