Diocese of Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES — Deacon Andrew DeRouen has always had a love for architecture and graphic design for as long as he can remember. But it was never enough for him to just design. He wanted to know the history and theory of why people build what they build. That yearning for a deeper understanding is what led to his vocation.

LAKE CHARLES  — The largest class of transitional deacons in the history of the Diocese of Lake Charles was ordained last summer in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Their journey to the priesthood took another historic turn this year as the COVID-19 pandemic gripping the world forced the four seminarians to abruptly end their final semester several months early.

The Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord

My dear people of God,

As we continue to heed medical and government advice to help keep our parishioners safe from COVID-19,  so many have expressed their sincere gratitude for our televised Mass on Sunday and the many parishes that are offering Masses, Way of the Cross, Adoration, prayers and guidance and other spiritual opportunities through the use of technology.  This allows parishioners to be reminded that this medical emergency is occurring during the Season of Lent when we are called to devote ourselves to prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Memorial of Saint Cyril of Jerusalem, Bishop and Doctor of the Church

My dear people of God,

You are in my daily prayers.  I remembered you this morning as I approached the Altar of God.  I know because of your messages to me that, although you understand these drastic measures, you still hunger for the Most Blessed Sacrament.  I look forward to returning to our churches again for Mass.  Let us not take for granted the gift of the sacraments, especially the Eucharist.

Monday

My dear people of God,

Given the most recent developments regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) at the federal and state levels and in the interest of the common good, with great reluctance and a very heavy heart, I am suspending public liturgical services in the Diocese of Lake Charles, effective at noon on Tuesday, March 17. Churches and chapels will remain open, according to their established schedules, for individual visits and prayer.
