In the spirit of Christian hope, the Diocese of Lake Charles announces the death of Reverend Monsignor Arthur B. Calkins who passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Monsignor Calkins, a priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, was in residence at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur, La. The Order of Christian Funeral will be celebrated on the following schedule:
A Solemn Requiem High Mass with Pontifical Assistance will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2024, at St. Francis de Sales Oratory, 802 South Huntington Street, Sulphur, La. After the Mass, his body will lie in repose in the Chapel of St. Peter Claver at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 1109 Cypress Street, Sulphur. Vigil will be kept throughout the day and night until Saturday morning, February 10. Friends may come to pray during the afternoon, evening, and night until his body is moved to the Cathedral on Saturday. The parish hall will be available during the prayer vigil for refreshments and visitation.
A Memorial Mass in the presence of Monsignor Calkin’s body will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 935 Bilbo Street, Lake Charles, La., at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2024, by the Most Reverend Glen John Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 3368 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Louis #3 Cemetery, New Orleans.
