In recent days there have been postings that the Diocese of Lake Charles has made a decision to not rebuild, not fix, or accommodate the needs of the Roman Catholics encompassing the Catholic Parishes of Saint Eugene in Grand Chenier, Our Lady Star of the Sea in Cameron, Sacred Heart of Jesus in Creole, Saint Patrick Mission in Sweetlake, and Saint Mary of the Lake in Big Lake/Grand Lake. These postings are not true.
The Diocese has not made any decisions because the Catholic faithful of these parishes have been asked to send their suggestions, thoughts, and concerns to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so I can report back to the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese which will make a recommendation to the Bishop. This gathering of information has not been completed.
There will be a hard copy survey which will be given to each family household attending Mass on the last weekend of October for their input to help the diocese to make a good sound decision. The survey will also be on-line for those who have evacuated who were living in those church parishes prior to Hurricane Laura and who are unable to get back to their homes. After gathering all of the surveys, e-mails, and consultations, a recommendation will then be given to the Bishop. Again, no decision has been made by the Diocese.
