MOSS BLUFF – Bishop Glen John Provost has approved the final plans and specifications for the Camp Karol Catholic Retreat Center, according to Father Whitney Miller, Director of Saint Charles Center and Camp Karol.
Bishop Provost also named Deacon Brian Soileau as Associate Director of Saint Charles Center and Camp Karol. That appointment became effective on July 1.
Father Miller also noted that the contractor for the project will be Alfred Palma LLC, though a firm starting date has not been confirmed. The architect for the project is Champeaux, Evans, Hotard. The construction of Camp Karol was one of the goals of the Return to the Lord Capital Campaign which the diocese conducted. The goal for Camp Karol was $1.6 million and contributions from pledges continue to be provided.
The official groundbreaking for The Lodge at Camp Karol took place in October 2017
“The Lodge” will feature a dining hall for guests/retreatants/campers, a large conference/meeting area, a full service kitchen with large pantry, cooler, freezer and dish washing room, office, staff conference room, a small interior chapel that can be reconfigured into a large exterior chapel for outdoor gatherings, restrooms, storage space and mechanical rooms.
Deacon Soileau with conduct “Camp Karol: Now and Into the Future” (a meet and greet evening) on Tuesday, August 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. Effective July 1
In his role, Deacon Soileau will be working with Fr. Miller to develop and plan for the establishment and future programming of the Camp Karol youth retreat facility.
