Statement of Bishop Glen John Provost on appointment of Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel as Bishop of Lafayette
“I have known Bishop Deshotel since our days in the minor seminary in Lafayette and congratulate him most sincerely on this important appointment to the See of his venerable predecessors Bishop Jeanmard, another native son, and Bishop Schexnayder, who ordained Bishop Deshotel a priest. This is a momentous occasion because Bishop Deshotel will have the privilege of presiding over the centennial of the Diocese of Lafayette and the bi-centennial of the Cathedral Parish and ushering the Diocese into a new century. The faithful of the Diocese of Lake Charles join me in extending prayers to Bishop Deshotel for the success of his episcopal ministry and for the growth and good of the faithful of the Diocese of Lafayette. I wish also to express my gratitude to Bishop Jarrell who completes his service as Ordinary. He has always been a good friend to us. May the pastoral work to which he so faithfully devoted himself continue to yield fruit for an eternal harvest.”
