MOSS BLUFF — Just when Deacon George Stearns had his professional life all mapped out, a phone call in 1972 began a chain of events rerouting him from Lubbock, Texas, to Lafayette, and eventually as long-time chancellor for the Diocese of Lake Charles. 

“You never know how life is going to unfold,” Stearns told a room full of clergy and staff in The Lodge of Camp Karol for his farewell luncheon on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

LAKE CHARLES — Growing in knowledge of the Catholic faith can be a lifelong journey for many baptized Catholics. For others, the search for answers in the “one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church” does not begin until they are adults.

Deacon George Kiernan Carr, II, of Moss Bluff passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from the comfort of his home.

LAKE CHARLES — Something Bishop Glen John Provost enjoys most about visiting Catholic schools are the students. On January 31, 2024, many students in the Diocese of Lake Charles had the chance to visit him in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for a special Mass to celebrate the 50th year of National Catholic Schools Week.

Seniors from St. Louis Catholic High School and eighth-grade students from the other five Catholic schools in the Diocese gathered to celebrate the gift of their faith-based learning. The Mass coincided with the Memorial of St. John Bosco, a champion for the education of Catholic youth.
