Welcome to the Diocese of Lake Charles

“’The Spirit of the Lord is upon me.’”  Luke 4:18

When our Lord rose in the synagogue of Nazareth to proclaim the words of Isaiah, He proclaimed this as His mission:  “’The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor.   He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord’” (Luke 4:18-19).

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' (USCCB) Administrative Committee has issued the following statement today marking the 50th anniversary of the assassination of the Rev. “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.”   John 6:56

My Dear People of God,

“At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood.   This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the Cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection:  a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet ‘in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us’” (Sacrosanctum concilium, 47, cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1323).
