In a memo addressed to Clergy of the Diocese of Lake Charles on Friday, March 15, 2024, Bishop Glen John Provost announced the appointment of Father Ruben Villarreal to the Dicastery for Evangelization in the Holy See. The memo reads:
At the request of Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle and with the agreement of all parties involved, Bishop Glen John Provost, conscious of the needs of both the universal and local Church, has released Father Ruben Villarreal to the Holy See for service in the Dicastery for Evangelization for a term of five years.
Father Villarreal will depart the Diocese in June to reside in Rome, relinquishing his positions as Judicial Vicar and faculty member of St. Louis Catholic High School. Bishop Provost will appoint a new Judicial Vicar prior to Father Villarreal’s departure. Father Villarreal will continue to serve as a consultant to the Bishop in Canonical matters and remains a priest of the Diocese of Lake Charles.
