LAKE CHARLES — The Reverend Monsignor James Gaddy was presented the 2019 Clergy Leadership Award on Dec. 13 at the annual Christmas luncheon for the Bishop Jude Speyrer Chapter of the Pontifical Knights and Dames.
“It is a good thing to honor a priest who works always for the glory of God and the good of God’s people,” said the Very Reverend Ruben Buller in presenting the award, which is done in odd-numbered years.
Currently pastor of St. Mary of the Lake Parish in Big Lake, Monsignor Gaddy was ordained to the priesthood on Dec. 18, 1965, for the Diocese of Lafayette.
“The Lord has filled my life with blessings more than anything I could imagine,” he said upon accepting the award.
Father Buller pointed out Monsignor Gaddy's willingness to serve, from his first assignment at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette to his current assignment in Big Lake. Previous assignments have also included: Our Lady of Seven Dolors Parish in Welsh, St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, St. Mary of the Lake Parish, St. Philip Neri Parish in Kinder, Our Lady Help of Christians Parish in Jennings, and Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish.
“Although he still takes time to go fishing and hunting, Monsignor Gaddy first and foremost makes time for the people of God,” said Father Buller.
A native of Meridian, Miss., Monsignor Gaddy attended Immaculata Seminary in Lafayette and Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans.
Also announced at the luncheon were officers for 2020 and 2021: Janet Stoma, president; Willie Moreno, vice president; Chester Jones, treasurer; and Gayle Marshall, secretary.
Bishop Glen John Provost shared highlights of his recent ad limina visit with Pope Francis during closing remarks and provided a closing prayer.
