Welcome to the Diocese of Lake Charles

ELTON — The Mass of Christian Burial for Deacon John H. Eaves was celebrated Monday, June 24, by The Most Reverend Glen John Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles, in St. Paul Catholic Church.  Burial followed in St. Paul Cemetery.  Rev. Marshall Boulet was the homilist.

Deacon John H. Eaves

Deacon Eaves was born on June 19, 1946 and died June 20, 2019. He was ordained a permanent deacon by The Most Reverend Jude Speyrer, Bishop of Lake Charles, on August 9, 1980 in Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Jennings, and served the parishes of St. Paul and St. Joseph in Elton for more than 30 years.

A loving brother, uncle and friend, he was a lifelong resident of Elton. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for over four years. Deacon Eaves enjoyed singing and playing the organ at church, as well. His charity and compassion was very evident in his daily work. He also worked at The Bank where he advanced bank manager. With his business knowledge, he assisted many people with good advice and helped many families get their affairs in order. He gave consciously to his church family as well as his community. He had a very giving spirit. John was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the American Legion. He also loved visiting with people, especially with his sister and family. He was adored by his numerous nieces and nephews. He enjoyed flowers and he loved his banana trees. John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Emnaline Killcrease of Grandview, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews, his church family and an abundance of friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Ina Eaves; brothers, Edma, J.D. and J.B. Eaves and T.J. Daigle; sisters, Mertie Fontenot and Leeamar Guillory.

Eternal rest, grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
