LAKE CHARLES – The Catholic schools in the Diocese of Lake Charles, located in Calcasieu Parish – the five elementary schools as well as St. Louis Catholic High School, will begin the 2017-2018 school term on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 and end on Friday May 25, 2018.
In addition to St. Louis, Catholic schools in Calcasieu Parish include Immaculate Conception Cathedral Catholic School, Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic School, St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic School, Holy Family Catholic School in Moss Bluff, and Our Lady’s Catholic School in Sulphur.
Holidays, days the students are not in attendance, include Labor Day, Monday, September 4; Columbus Day, Monday, October 9; All Saints Day, Wednesday, November 1; Thanksgiving, Monday, November 20 to Friday, November 24; Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Friday, December 8; Christmas, Wednesday December 20 (half day) to Tuesday, January, 2; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday January 15; Mardi Gras, Friday, February 9 to Tuesday, February 13; and Easter, Thursday, March 29 (half day) to Friday, April 6.
Special events during the school year include Catholic Schools Week, January 28 to February 2 and the Catholic Schools Week Mass in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday, January 31, at 8:30 a.m.
St. Louis graduation ceremonies are on Tuesday, May 16.
Our Lady Immaculate Catholic School (OLI) in Jennings is the only Catholic school located outside Calcasieu Parish. Its school year begins Friday, August 11 and concludes on Thursday, May 24.
OLI holidays, where students do not report to school, are Labor Day, Monday, September 4; Jennings Fair Day, Friday, October 6; Thanksgiving, Monday, November 20 to Friday, November 24: Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Friday, December 8; Christmas, Thursday, December 21 to Thursday, January 4; Dr. Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January, 15; Mardi Gras, Monday, February 12 to Wednesday, February 14; and Easter, Friday. March 30 to Friday, April 6.
Half day class schedules will be observed at OLI on December 20, 2017 and May 24, 2018.
