LAKE CHARLES — Art, dance, music, and cuisine from the Hispanic community at St. Henry Catholic Church were on full display at the Lake Charles Historic City Hall Arts and Culture Center for the opening of “Arte Hispano” on December 9, the feast day of Saint Juan Diego. The inaugural event attracted hundreds of guests for the liveliest opening night reception on record.

The Most Reverend Glen John Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles, celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Monday, December 12. The bilingual celebration was held at St. Henry Catholic Church in Lake Charles. The Mass commemorates the appearance of Mary to the Mexican peasant Juan Diego in 1531. The celebration is hosted by St. Henry Parish and the Hispanic Ministry of the Diocese of Lake Charles.

Joining Bishop Provost for the celebration were Very Rev. Matthew Cormier, V.F., Pastor of St. Henry; Rev. Joseph Caraway, Parochial Vicar of St. Henry; Very Rev. Ruben Buller, Pastor of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception; Deacon Josue Canelo and Deacon Patrick Hebert, both of St. Henry; and Deacon Joshua Page, a seminarian studying at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans for the Diocese of Lake Charles. Also assisting were Vianney House residents, Logan Guillot and Cameron Fontenot.

Following Mass, the Guadalupe Dancers led a procession to a dinner featuring Hispanic and American cuisine, music, dancing, and a pinata. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!
